How To Practice Patience

I’m not going to lie, being a patient person was never my strongest quality. I lose patience for things and people pretty naturally. I can get overly anxious for things that I plan out to happen the way that I planned them.

The one thing I learned, though, in starting your own business, blog, OR YouTube Channel is that you NEED patience. Without patience, you’ll find yourself frustrated and stressed out. I know this because I found myself exactly that. I wanted everything to just happen and it doesn’t work like that. You have to wait until things happen naturally and your hard work will pay off. Plus, patience is a show of good character. If you’re a new parent, you’ll need patience. If you’re married or even in a relationship, you’ll need patience with your partner and they’ll need the same with you. So, regardless of your reasoning…. learning some patience will do you good.

So, how do you learn patience? Oddly enough, I always thought I was a fairly patient person until I specifically said that I wanted to start practicing patience. Then, suddenly I found myself in situations that tested my patience over and over again. Those were some EXPERIENCES. But, they did teach me patience and I did learn a lot about how to be patient and THAT is what I am going to share with you guys. So let’s get into it!

How To Practice Patience

  1. Take intentional deep breaths. I actually learned this little trick doing yoga. When you practice yoga, instructors tend to really emphasize focusing on your breath. Something about focusing on breathing instead of whatever it is getting on your nerves or stressing you out is really soothing. It can calm you down at least in that moment and allow you some clarity.

  2. Get rid of negative energies. If someone or something is making you feel negatively, frustrated, or stressed out continuously, let them or it go. Your environment has a direct impact on your emotional state and behavior. So you have to clear the energy around you of negativity. Having that negative energy around you will only intensify your anxiety or impatience about the situation.

  3. Recognize that everything is not in your control. This was probably one of the hardest things for me to do. As much as I’d hate to admit this, I’m kind of a control freak. My love tells me this all the time. I always like to know exactly what is going to happen and how it is going to happen and when it is going to happen. I like for people to do the thins they say they are going to do when they say they are going to do it and sometimes I get frustrated and impatient when that doesn’t happen. When it comes to being an entrepreneur of any kind, there are going to be things that you just cannot control and you have to be prepared for that. You have to ACCEPT that you won’t be able to control everything and life will throw things at you. Remind yourself of this and embrace it. It is okay for everything not to happen like you thought it would. In fact, the best things usually happen unexpectedly. The most successful people went through years of hard times and having to be patient before they reached their ultimate level of success. You learn lessons and you grow from things that happen out of your control.

  4. Intentionally slow yourself down.  One of the things that we tend to do when we’re struggling to practice patience is move quickly out of frustration. Another thing I learned from yoga is how calming it is to be intentional with your movements and slow down. If it is a person that is causing you to be impatient, be careful when speaking to them and slow down your words. It isn’t easy. In fact, it can be rather hard. I naturally speak pretty fast, but something about slowing down my words and my actions also help slow down my thoughts and my emotions. It is a great practice for being patient.

  5. Learn to distract yourself. When I am feeling impatient I tend to get anxious. Something that really helps me feel less anxious and calms my nerves is to keep busy. I throw myself into my work when I get impatient about something or someone. Sometimes I have a client that isn’t doing their part and I get impatient, so I stop working with that and get busy working on my blog or editing videos. Another thing you could do to keep busy is doing some cleaning in your house or take on a hobby that is new. Learn a new skill or find new ways to make money (one of my favorite things to do). There are plenty of ways to distract yourself and keep your mind occupied by something other than what is making your impatient and anxious.

  6. Find ways to relax your nerves. Self-care is the best care. I say this all the time, I know, but it is so extremely true. One of the benefits of self-care is its ability to calm your nerves and help keep you from focusing on your source of impatience. I love my weekly bubble baths where I soak away all of my troubles and stresses. Find ways to relax and calm down. It will help you a lot to relax and take some time so that you can find some perspective.

  7. Write down your frustrations. I feel like I find writing to be a help in most situations. Something about getting your feelings down on paper is oddly therapeutic. I absolutely recommend that if you’re feeling impatient or anxious or frustrated about something and you’re struggling with practicing patience, write down all of your feelings. Once you finish writing, put your notebook or pad away and then walk away. It is important to write down those thoughts and then put them away. It’s symbolic maybe? I really don’t know I just know that once I put my notebook away, I feel as if I just put away my negative or anxious emotions as well.

These are the things that work for me when I am practicing patience. It is not an easy thing to do if patience does not come naturally to you, but it is definitely worth it. If you want to reach new heights in your business, you have be patient for it. if you want to grow your channel or your blog and make that an income one day, patience is definitely going to be necessary. It is okay if things don’t happen right away. It is okay if things are not in your control. Hopefully this post was helpful and some of these tips will help you while you’re practicing patience in your life.
