How To Start Living Life on Your Terms
This is honestly the reason for it all. This brand. My business. My YouTube Channel. All of it was so that I could live life on my terms.
This journey was a long one and I am not going to lie, there were a lot of hard times. I struggled with homelessness, depression, anxiety, and a lot of other things, but I was DETERMINED to live life on my terms doing things that I wanted to do.
Now I work from home full time, have a humble team to help me with my business, I work less than 5 hours a day most days and those hours are full of doing things I really enjoy doing so it doesn't feel like work at all... this blog for example.
So how to start living life on your own terms? While I go into way more detail in my e-book about my journey, I want to share some of these basic steps I took to get to where I am now.
How to Start Living Life on Your Terms
The way I actually got into starting up my blog was to start down a self-development journey. In 2017, I moved to Florida, and while my fiance and I were having a tough time I started focusing on myself and my personal growth. Taking this time to learn about who you are and what you really want out of life is an important factor in living life on your terms. You've gotta figure out what your terms are exactly.
Prioritize spending time doing things you love
I realized in 2017 that I loved to write... but I never left myself time to write anything. I didn't carve out time to do something I KNEW I enjoyed. So, I started writing songs and poetry. I wanted to get back into writing and one thing I had always written was music and poems. I started experimenting with other things because I wasn't sure if there was some great love or passion out there that I hadn't experienced. This lead me to this blog you're reading right now.
Stop putting stuff off
I had a client for social media management recently who told me she wanted to start her business five years ago but kept putting it off. FIVE YEARS AGO. Do you know what that means? She waited five years to do something she really wanted for herself. If this is you... STAWHPIT. I know you may have a million reasons why you can't start this or that right now, but none of that will matter when this short life comes to an end. None of your excuses will make a difference. If you don't start living for yourself now, you could live to regret it later. Whatever it is you're wanting to do for yourself but you're putting it off... GET IT TOGETHER.
Stop doing things you don't enjoy
Learn to say NO. While you're wasting time doing things you don't want to do and don't have to do... you could be spending that same time decompressing, learning yourself, starting your business, spending time with loved ones. Time is THE most precious thing on earth. It is the one thing you cannot make back once you've spent it... and it's important to remember that and hold yourself accountable for creating the kind of life you cherish and enjoy.
A lot of folks are ungrateful. There. I said it. I have a LOT of conversations with people, especially on Twitter, who are business owners or content creators. A lot of them spend more time complaining about what they don't have than being happy about what they do. I'll go through someone's page and see lots of tweets or posts about how nobody is supporting them in their city, friendship circle, or family... but NONE about that one new follower they got, that one booking they received, that one order they got that month from someone that doesn't know but spent their hard-earned money on them. You have so much to be grateful for. If you're reading this, you have access to the internet. Lots of people don't. Gratitude opens the door for more blessings than you realize.
These are just the tip of the iceberg. My journey is a roller coaster, and I share some insights into how things really look, how I've really felt, and it may be something that helps you or you can relate to.
